"Truth will stand proud and erect, unsullied and uncontaminated by the pestiferous breath of calumniating mortals, and no power can stay its progress." -John Taylor (1850)

Adam-ondi-Ahman

Adam-ondi-Ahman, meaning "The holy consecrated land of Adam," is sacred and hallowed to all Latter-day Saints. It is here that Adam bestowed his final blessing upon his righteous posterity; and where the great council that Daniel foresaw will come to pass preparatory to the millennial reign of Jesus Christ (Daniel 7:9-14).

The first visit of the Prophet Joseph Smith to Adam-ondi-Ahman was made in May 1838. On May 19th, the Lord made the following known to Joseph: "Adam-ondi-Ahman," because said he, it is the place where Adam shall come to visit his people or the Ancient of days shall sit as spoken of by Daniel the prophet. (D&C 116)

The city of Adam-ondi-Ahman was laid out north and west of Tower Hill, so named because of the discovery of remains of an ancient altar at its crest; the town square and storehouse were at the top of Spring Hill, across the small valley of Adam-ondi-Ahman, to the north. Upwards of one thousand people lived in the city, including major settlements from Canada and Kirtland. At the present time the Church owns large parcels of land, including both Tower and Spring Hills and the valley of Adam-ondi-Ahman.

At the opposite end of the valley, there is an overlook with a wonderful view of the Valley of Adam-ondi-Ahman. The tree line in the distance is Grand River, where Lyman Wight operated a ferry. The valley is currently farmland.
